Ulysses go to the Tops

Sunday 23rd July may just be described as the most perfect winter weather riding day ever. Half a dozen members left Bomaderry under sunny skies and quickly arrived at Mount Ousley expecting to pick up about ten more members. We appeared to be a few members short, but the Kiama/Shellharbour group arrived at the last minute to boost the numbers to 15. We all arrived at Stanwell Tops lookout along with a few hundred other Sunday tourists. The view is spectacular but the temperatures in the blustery wind were less so. So the group took in the sights and crowd quickly and then took the short scenic ride over the Seacliffe Bridge to the Wombarra Bowling Club for a nice enough lunch. The trip home was a bit fraught with heavy traffic north of Wollongong, but that didn't take the lustre of a beat Winter's day riding with mates. Pictures available here.

Picnic lunch and Winter sun.  A winning combination.

After a late change of venue and times due to the “Million Paws Walk” I suspected the mumbers at today’s ride might be a little off. But the South Coast members proved me wrong again. By the time I arrived at the Ampol South Nowra there were six members from the north and eleven from the Nowra area, raring to go.

We took off on what could only be described as near perfect Winter riding conditions. Sure, it was cool, but also sunny and with no wind. As we flew through Bewong we picked up another five of the southernmost members.

The trip down the coast was fast and traffic and roadworks free and most of us arrived by midday. Margaret was a little later as she had apparently followed a few bikes down the coast. Unfortunately, those bikes weren’t from our group and so she was a little delayed. Our decision to avoid Lions Park at Burrill Lake was vindicated when we crossed the bridge there and noticed the hundreds of dogs and their owner there for the Million Paws Walk.

The group had all of the available food options covered, some sat in the park, overlooking the river and enjoyed the picnic lunch they had brought with them, while some others sat on the sunny deck and enjoyed the food from the River Café. One enthusiastic couple even fired up their portable stove and grilled up some snags.

At the end of a relaxing lunch break, the group slowly drifted away in dribs and drabs as we do. All in all, it was another well attended successful and enjoyable ride for 22 members and guests.
